What began being an inside joke amongst two self-proclaimed weirdos in Ft. Worth, Texas soon becomes a lot more than they bargained for if they opt to turn their conservative southern ideology on its head and invent a fresh religion almost all their own in J.R. “Bob” Dobbs and the Church of the SubGenius
From Dark Star Pictures and Uncork’d Entertainment comes the story of a church that’s called “probably the most aggressively preposterous theology the planet has ever known!” But what’s the Church? Filmmaker Sandy K. Boone explores the underground movement which has galvanized the imaginative, the artistic, the nerdy, even the deranged – to look at the simmering dystopia within their culture, and do nothing about it – except absolutely, maybe, poke fun at everything.
Directed by Sandy K. Boone, and compiled by Sandy K. Jason and boone Wehling, the film features appearances from Richard Linklater (Boyhood, Dazed and Confused), Penn Jillette and Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation, Have an excellent Trip: Adventures in Psychedelics) J.R. “Bob” Dobbs and the Church of the SubGenius is defined going to virtual theaters on October 16 accompanied by an electronic and video on demand release on October 20.
