Uglies: Joey King to Star in Netflix’s Adaptation Directed by McG
is reporting that Golden Globe nominee Joey King (The Act, Netflix’s The Kissing Booth) will star in and executive produce Netflix’s adaptation of Uglies, based on Scott Westerfield’s international best-selling dystopian fantasy novel. McG (The Babysitter, The Babysitter: Kill Queen, Rim of the World) is attached to direct the project.
The story is set in a world in which a compulsory operation at sixteen wipes out physical differences and makes everyone pretty by conforming to an ideal standard of beauty.
According to the outlet, King has been a fan of the series for a long time and was “aggressive” in pursuing the lead role for the movie adaptation once the streamer acquired the rights to Westerfield’s novel. Grey’s Anatomy showrunner and executive producer Krista Vernoff (Station 19, Rebel) is adapting the script.
Jamie King and Westerfield will also serve as executive producers alongside Joey King. John Davis and Jordan Davis for Davis Entertainment Company will produce along with Robyn Mesinger for Anonymous Content, Dan Spilo for Industry Entertainment, and McG and Mary Viola via their Wonderland banner.
