    Uganda is now open for International Tourists

    One of the popular East African countries and home to mountain gorillas is now welcoming international tourists.

    Uganda, the landlocked country which borders South Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, and DC of Congo is now open to tourists after it closed its borders in March due to Coronavirus. The country has received the World Travel and Tourism Council’s Safe Travels Global Safety & Hygiene Stamp as it complied with standard health and hygiene.

    And as per the new protocol, the country has initiated airport procedures in accordance with the guidelines from the International Civil Aviation Organisation.The country opened its borders along with specific rules and regulations that are needed to be followed by tourists which include:

    1. All passengers entering Uganda should produce a Negative RT-PCR test for Covid-19 and the test result should not be more than 72 hours. Airlines have particularly been told not to board passengers who do not have a covid-19 certificate.
    2. Upon arrival, all passengers will be undergoing health screening which includes temperature checks and also assessments of signs of any other infectious diseases.
    3. If passengers test positive for Covid-19, the passenger will be taken to a dedicated Covid-19 test care facility.
    4. Passengers leaving Uganda should also possess a negative Covid-19 PCR test which needs to be not more than 72 hours.
    5. Mandatory use of masks and social distancing is needed to be followed at all times. If a person is not using a mask, he/she will be barred entry.

    One of the major concerns is the primates catching coronavirus. Humans, Chimpanzees, Bonobos, Gorillas, and Orangutans are susceptible to Covid-19 and with this matter, the park authorities have taken full responsibility for national parks and have laid out several rules for tourists which include.

    • Mandatory use of masks, temperature checks using an infra-red thermometer will be tested at entry points. The visitors, staff will be checked regularly.
    • Hand wash and sanitizers will be placed at the entrance points of the parks and protected areas of the park. It is mandatory to wash hands and use sanitizers.
    • Visitors who do not have masks and will not abide by the rules will never be allowed inside the park.
    • Vehicles, boats and other modes of transport will be allowed with half capacity as per rules laid out by the government.
    • Tourists are required to stay around 32ft away from primates and during primate trekking, guides will be present around 6.5ft between tourists.
