ABC Officially Renews Grey’s Station and Anatomy 19 Spin-Off

The long-running and extremely popular medical drama Grey’s Anatomy has officially been renewed for its 18th season. Grey’s Anatomy will get a brand new season, with its Station 19 spin-off also being renewed for a 5th season. It’s unclear whether or not the upcoming 18th season of Grey’s Anatomy will be its last, but the future of the show is certainly up in the air. It also stars Kevin McKidd as Owen Hunt, Jesse Williams as Jackson Avery, Caterina Scorsone as Amelia Shepherd, Camilla Luddington as Jo Wilson, and Kelly McCreary as Maggie Pierce.

    After receiving multiple big-screen adaptations since its 1925 publishing, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby is finally making its solution to the tiny screen as Vikings creator Michael Hirst has signed to create a series iteration at A+E Studios and ITV Studios America, in line with the Hollywood Reporter.

    Set in the Roaring Twenties on Long Island, the story of Fitzgerald’s celebrated novel centers around narrator Nick Carraway as he begins creating a friendship with mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and learns of his obsession to reunite along with his former lover, Daisy Buchanan. The series adaptation will further explore New York’s Black community and musical subculture through the right time frame, with Columbia University’s William B. Ransford Professor of English and Comparative Literature and African-American studies Farah Jasmine Griffin serving as a consultant on the series, dealing with Hirst and consulting producer Blake Hazard directly, great-granddaughter of Zelda and Scott Fitzgerald, on the miniseries reimagining.

    I appear to have lived with Gatsby the majority of my entire life, reading it first as a schoolboy, later teaching it at Oxford in the 1970s then re-reading it periodically ever since,” Hirst said. “As the critic Lionel Trilling once wrote: ‘The Great Gatsby continues to be as fresh as when it first appeared, it has gained in weight and relevance even. ’ Today, as America seeks to again reinvent itself once, may be the perfect moment to check with new eyes as of this timeless story, to explore its iconic and famous characters through the present day lens of gender, race and sexual orientation. Fitzgerald’s profoundly romantic vision will not prevent him exposing and examining the darker underbelly of the American experience, which explains why the complete story speaks to both tragedy and hope, today and just why it continues to resonate.

    Hirst is mounted on pen the script for the “closed-ended miniseries” and executive produce alongside Groundswell Productions’ Michael London (Sideways), as the co-producers currently are in work shopping the project around to premium cable and streaming outlets. Sources report that A+E have held the rights to the novel for many years, going completely to the tiny screen film starring Paul Rudd as Carraway back, and that they’ve been dealing with Hirst for at the very least 3 years quietly, year before departing with Apple secretly attached last.

    Hirst spent some time working with A+E for pretty much a decade, from 2013 along with his hit historical drama Vikings that served as History Channel’s first scripted series and happens to be developing the limited series The Plague Year for A&E and signed a standard cope with president Barry Jossen. Gatsby has been adapted into film numerous times, like the Warner Baxter-led iteration in 1926, 1949’s Alan Ladd starrer, 1974’s with Robert Redford and Baz Luhrmann’s 2013 effort with Leonardo DiCaprio in the titular role.
