It’s been a strange and difficult past 12 months. The pandemic, social injustice, and job elimination have impacted a lot of my closest friends, family, and co-workers. Most of these factors, paired having an inability to see relatives and buddies face-to-face, lulled me right into a sort of self-reflective cocoon where I had to ask myself some tough questions in what really matters.
I’ve been making games for a long period – over 25 years now! I’ve had the chance to lead the creation of two highly successful original IPs and build multiple teams and studios from the bottom up. A few of these adventures have already been more lucrative than I possibly could have ever truly imagined, among others less so.
Several folks have asked me recently: “In the end of the experiences, do you wish to maintain the games industry still? the answer is definitely an unwavering YES ”! The games industry is where I belong!
Whether it’s playing Settlers of Catan with my kids or Valheim with my team, games continue steadily to bring me joy. They’re a genuine solution to relax, connect, and share experiences with people I about care. And the act of earning games is, in lots of ways, more fulfilling even. Getting to gather experts across a wide variety of creative fields – from music composers, to concept artists, to programmers (yes! programmers too are creative! ) right into a synched orchestra that delivers new worlds for players to explore perfectly. For me, you’ll find nothing more fulfilling or rewarding I could imagine doing.
WHEN I took stock of my career during the last couple of years and began to consider what to accomplish next, I found a simple conclusion: I have to make contact with what I really like doing most, and achieve this in a genuine way that provides we the freedom to explore, inspire, and create.
so today I’m announcing Haven
And, an unbiased studio where most of the talented game developers I’ve worked with for a long time (and love dearly!) are arriving at do what we have been most passionate about together. It’s time for all of us to refocus on GAMES in a location where we are able to practice our crafts without the barriers or impediments. You want to create worlds where players can escape, have a great time, express themselves, and discover community. You want to pour our passion right into a project. You want to make something wondrous for folks to experience. Because we have confidence in the charged power of games to create joy to people’s lives. And Sony does, too. Their commitment to excellence is unmatched. It’s why I couldn’t be happier because of their backing and support.
Together, you want to create games which are a haven for players, and you want to create a studio that is clearly a haven for developers. So, today while we don’t have many details to announce, I’d like the PlayStation community to learn that Haven Studios has already been hard at the job on an unannounced IP. We can’t wait showing you more!
