Today on Xbox One and Xbox Series X

Hey everyone! Brian Otten from X Plus in Osaka, Japan here. We have been thrilled to be releasing Smelter , a 16-bit style action-strategy hybrid, S!

    So, what’s Smelter about?

Smelter is really a story in regards to a boy. Actually, it’s a tale in regards to a girl and a boy. Wait – actually, it’s a tale in regards to a girl and a talkative winged being that may transform right into a group of armor and command countless forces to expand his magnificent empire through the entire deepest reaches of Rumbly Lands to be able to regain what he and the lady have lost.

Smelter is our debut title since coming together as a team in 2018 in fact it is our undertake a mix we haven’t seen much recently: a top-down strategy, action-platformer in a 16-bit style.

In overhead, Mode 7-style map stages, players control airborne Smelter, who is able to fly, shoot and destroy obstacles and enemies while giving commands to his troops to expand territory, build unleash and structures attack units against enemy monsters in a variety of regions. Players control Smelter in a top-down strategic conquest as he and his Zirm forces try to expand his empire by completing quests and dealing with an onslaught of enemies determined to avoid him. Gameplay was created with shooting and command-driven interfaces, adding modern-day tutorials to aid both veteran gamers and the ones not used to the genre.

After the player has completed certain NPC-driven quests and fortified key locations on the map, they’ll access new and exciting action-platformer stages where they control Eve infused with Smelter by walking and undertake the criminals. Eve is capable of doing a range of melee attacks, jumps, dashes, wall grabs, Smelter special attacks and maneuvers to perform the stages and progress the complete story. Stages contain secret “Trial” stages where in fact the players are rewarded by completing short levels within given conditions, such as for example Time Trial, Don’t Get Hit, Don’t BE OBSERVED and much more.

Among the key modern-day top features of Smelter may be the elemental skill tree system that grants Eve and Smelter special abilities on land and air. Perform punching rock and combos shield counters with Gurabi’s earth and gravity-based skills, launch shock-infused spinning jump attacks with Eremagu’s electrified abilities, and fire long-range shooting attacks with the unstable yet deadly Nutoro elemental expertise. By unlocking new abilities, players can reach new areas and tackle stages with different approaches.

When planning Smelter , while though it was created by us important to give our very own spin on the top-down strategy and action-platformer genres, we were definitely inspired by classics like Actraiser and the Megaman series due to the fact those were the games a lot of us loved to play but still want to play.

Even though that may explain a few of the inspirations for the overall game design choices, we feel Smelter has ultimately become this mix of the team’s personalities and what all of us enjoy to learn, pay attention to, play watching – whatever we have been personally inspired by whether it’s a sarcastic comedy, action-packed anime with characters wearing armor which has no continuing business being worn in battle, memorable boss from the game we played years back, or perhaps a super rock soundtrack we bang our heads to while working.

The Journey in to the Rumbly Land

Many people at X Plus were (but still are) foreigners surviving in Osaka, Japan. The overall game development community in Japan can are generally a reasonably connected one, amongst expats especially, that makes it a great spot to find people that have similar goals. We were all searching for something new and finally found ourselves together at X Plus in Japan, that includes a long history with collectible figurines, plus they were ready to give us an opportunity to pursue something we wished to do.

Through the planning process, we’d to ask ourselves, do you want to go big? Or do you want to play it safe and go small? We’d a complete large amount of cool ideas! However, we realized that to be able to deliver the product quality we were shooting for and to be able to deliver the knowledge we wanted players to possess, we had in all honesty with ourselves.

We returned to the whiteboard and asked ourselves: “What do we think makes a casino game fun?”

The effect we reached may be the Smelter players experience now: an action-packed platformer and strategy game with three distinct elements and an easy-to-learn swappable expertise system, a straightforward compelling narrative yet, high-quality and colorful pixel art, fun strategy mechanics and much more emphasis placed on thematic stage mechanics that mesh well with the abilities available to the ball player.

Lastly, an excellent soundtrack and sound design done by some incredibly dedicated and passionate artists that helped breathe life in to the visuals and game mechanics.

    Message to Players

We were super pleased to have the ability to get together and proceed through this journey of earning Smelter what it really is today. For over 2 yrs, the team lived and breathed Smelter (even had dreams!). We’ve all put a bit of ourselves into Smelter and we have been hoping to really have the possiblity to share the story of Smelter with players all over the world.
