Based on the Hollywood Reporter, Fox has officially didn’t give executive producer Greg Berlanti’s crime thriller drama Prodigal Son a third season renewal. The cancellation comes prior to the Tom Payne and Michael Sheen-led series’ second season finale that’s slated to air in a few days on, may 18. It’s unclear if Warner Bros. Television is likely to shop the series elsewhere or much less it’s been doing better in digital viewing than in broadcast.
The outlet’s source noted that it had been a hard decision to create for the network because they were a fan of the show’s creative choices. However, Prodigal Son didn’t gain more hype and viewers, regardless of the inclusion of a significant guest star by means of Catherine Zeta-Jones, rendering it the existing lowest-rated drama on the network.
A few of the cast including Payne, Bellamy Young, Keiko Agena, and Aurora Perrineau alongside executive producer Sarah Schechter also continued to Twitter to talk about their statements concerning the cancellation, thanking fans because of their support.
Just what a trip. Playing Malcolm is a joy and a privilege. The very best cast on network TV and probably the most unique show around. It had been done by us however you like. Want to everyone who enjoyed everything alongside us. To check out the final two eps! THEY’RE AMAZING. #ProdigalSon

when i loved making Prodigal Son. I believe the very best cast on network television. An unbelievable NYC crew. An employee of brilliant writers led by the Creators/Showrunners Chris Fedak & Sam Sklaver who poured their hearts (and twisted minds) into causeing this to be delightfully disturbing show https://t.co/NvUEpGnzPP

Prodigal Son focuses on Malcolm Bright , a criminal profiler with a rare talent so you can get in the minds of killers. He learned how they think because his father, Dr. Martin Whitly, was a notorious serial killer referred to as “The Surgeon.” Now he’s using his twisted genius to greatly help the NYPD solve their most puzzling murders. Bright’s team, led by his longtime mentor, NYPD Lieutenant Gil Arroyo, includes Detectives Dani Powell, JT Tarmel, and medical examiner Dr. Edrisa Tanaka.
Season 2 accumulates with Bright’s personal life in disarray following the shocking actions of his sister, Ainsley, in the growing season 1 finale. Now, he must “be mindful” of her and protect his mother, Jessica Whitly, from the secret which could tear the household yet again apart. Further complicating matters, Martin seeks to deepen his relationship with Bright, his “prodigal son,” but forging this bond results in shocking revelations and twists.
The series starred Tom Payne ( The Walking Dead ), Michael Sheen ( Masters of Sex ), Lou Diamond Phillips ( Stand and Deliver ), Bellamy Young ( Scandal ), Halston Sage ( The Orville ), Aurora Perrineau ( IF THEY See Us ), Frank Harts (), The Leftovers and Keiko Agena ( Gilmore Girls ).
