Kena: Bridge of Spirits Has Already Recouped Its Development Costs

Kena: Bridge of Spirits was released in September to largely positive reviews (including a 9 out of 10 from us) and has performed well in sales. So much so that, according to developer Ember Labs, the game has already broken even on its development cost. In an interview with Bloomberg, Ember Lab heads Josh and Mike Grier discussed Kena's road from development to release. To their surprise, the game has apparently sold well, and while they don't divulge specific sale numbers, they say it's already recouped its initial development costs. It's unclear how much money Kena had behind it, but this is great news for the small studio.  "It's hard to tell what's a huge success," said Josh in the article. "Sony's happy." Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a third-person action-adventure title that stars Kena, a spirit guide, who guides small critters called the Rot to purify a land plagued by a supernatural blight. Along the way, you'll assist wayward souls to help ferry them to the afterlife, while action consists of melee and ranged combat. The game has an old-school linear design and scope, plus it's quite the looker in the art department (Ember Labs cut its teeth as an animation studio, after all). Kena is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via the Epic Games Store.  Be sure to read the full interview to learn more about the Kena: Bridge of Spirits' pre-release marketing, as well as our coverage hub for extensive background on the game itself. Xbox and MAC Cosmetics Bring Game Pass Characters to Life This Halloween

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Xbox, we’re teaming up with the world’s leading professional makeup authority, MAC Cosmetics, to bring gaming and beauty fans Halloween looks inspired by iconic characters from Xbox Game Pass titles. Created by M∙A∙C makeup artists, the stunning looks bring to life the virtual worlds of Halo, Sea of Thieves, and Psychonauts — giving consumers tips to recreate the spooky looks at home this Halloween season.

When I connected with MAC Senior Artist John Stapleton, he perfectly summarized the self-expression offered by both makeup and gaming: “What I enjoy most as an artist and appreciate most about the fantasy worlds of Xbox is that there is no limit to the imagination. Makeup gives gamers the creative freedom to transform themselves into their favorite characters while having fun and creating a sense of community for people of all backgrounds at the same time. I hope these looks inspire Xbox fans to come up with their own looks from the games for Halloween and beyond.”

    Character: Milla Vodello

Inspiration: “Making myself up as Milla, I wanted to be the warm to Sasha’s cool. I started by brightening my eyes with Fall In Love and Lens Blur Powderkiss Eyeshadows and a pop of sparkle with Behind The Curtain Shapeshifter Duochrome Shadow to bring a new twist to Milla’s traditional eyeshadow look. I then brought an anime-look to lashes with Magic Extensions Mascara for maximum spike before opting for a muted nude on the lips, blending Brick Lip Pencil and topped with All Things Magical Powerglass.” — Alicia Martinez, MAC Artist and Regional Education Trainer

When bringing this beloved AI character to life, I made sure to give her glowing eyes and skin extra emphasis to highlight her hologram-like features.” — Martina Derosa, MAC Artist

    Game: Sea of Thieves
    Look: Lesedi

Inspiration: “My look pays tribute to the colorful cast of pirates you encounter throughout the epic Sea of Thieves adventure in search of hidden treasures. My look is meant to be easy and comfortable to wear using highly pigmented color and simple application techniques. Of course, no pirate costume is complete without dark and stormy eye makeup, so for my uncovered eye I used our Brun eyeshadow to create the perfect smokey eye accented by Kohl Power Eye Pencil in Feline, Magic Extension 5mm Fibre Mascara and 80 Romantic Lash. I then finished off the look with a bountiful lip created with Powder Kiss Liquid Lipcolour in Pretty Pleats and Love Me Liquid Lipcolour in Been There, Plum That.” — Romero Jennings, Director of Makeup Artistry, MAC Cosmetics
