Sony Pictures Classics has made the official version available. Carmen Rising stars Melissa Barrera and Paul Mescal, the latter of whom lately received his first Oscar nomination for Best Actor, are featured in the teaser trailer for the upcoming musical drama. The movie will make its theatrical debut sometime this year after having its world debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2022.
The two strangers in the video are both fleeing from their own troubled pasts. They go to a club for comfort and refuge, where they soon find themselves falling in love.

Described as a gritty tale from the modern era, Carmen is based on a screenplay that Benjamin Millepied co-wrote with Alexander Dinelaris and Loc Barrère. The story follows a young, fiercely independent woman who is forced to flee her home in the Mexican desert after her mother was brutally murdered. A lawless volunteer border guard brutally murders two other immigrants in Carmen’s group after she survives a terrifying and dangerous illegal border crossing into the US.
When the border guard and his patrol partner, Aidan, and a Marine with PTSD, # 8212, get caught up in an impending deadly standoff, Carmen and Helpan are compelled to flee together. They travel north toward Los Angeles in search of the erratic Masilda, the proprietor of La Sombra nightclub and # 8212, a haven for music and dance, and the best friend of Carmen’s mother. In the safety of Masilda’s marvelous haven, Carmen and Aidan find comfort as well as their unwavering love for one another, but as the police hunt draws near, time is running out. &# 8221,
Dimitri Rassam, Rosemary Blight, and Mimi Valdes are the film’s producers. Nicholas Britell, a composer, had also agreed to work on the project to score the movie # 8217, which features dreamlike dance sequences that evoke magic realism.
