& lt, p & gt, Team Ninja has earned a reputation for crafting some of the most satisfying action games around, nimbly transitioning from the high – octane action Ninja Gaiden series to the Soulslike thrills of Nioh. Its latest time, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, is an unforgiving but strongly exciting display of freneticism that lives up to this heritage. The steady swordplay, fantastic boss fights, and book systems more prove Team Ninja’s ability to craft unyielding experiences. Although its rear quarter is hampered by a lack of evil array, its lightning – immediately duels make it one of the more gratifying titles in recent memory. & lt,/ p & gt, & lt, p & gt, Set in a version of 2nd – century China inspired by the classic novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, we follow an unnamed militia soldier as they’re drawn into a war over an immortality – granting elixir. While fans of the text will probably enjoy fighting alongside their preferred figures, this story does little to share their nuances or complexity, with storytelling that serves as little more than set dressing. & lt, / p & gt, & lt, iframe width =& quot, 560 & quot, height =& quot, 315 & quot, frameBorder =& quot, 0 & quot, allow =& quot, autoplay & quot, allowfullscreen =& quot, & quot, frameborder =& quot, 0 & quot, height =& quot, & quot, src =& quot, https: // www. youtube.com / embed / pi7vQOpfquo & quot, width =& quot, & quot, & gt, & lt,/ iframe & gt, & lt, p & gt, However, while the writing is unremarkable, battles are entrancing. Those concerned with Soulslikes may feel at home with Wo Long’s similar development systems, interactive features, and shared terrible difficulty. More specifically, the primary fight is directly influenced by Sekiro: Shadows Die Double, emphasizing parrying attacks so you can ultimately destroy your foe’s poise and score a Fatal Strike. & lt,/ p & gt, & lt, p & gt, While plenty of titles have attempted to mimic these elements to varying results, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty evokes the same joy and despair found in the games that inspired it, its duels capturing a white – knuckled intensity elevated by precise controls and well – telegraphed enemy attacks. Here, deflecting knocks lets you build up Spirit, which can be used to prop up your defenses, perform effective techniques, or cast satisfying part – themed spells. Gaining momentum requires deflecting, and once you get used to it, doing it feels adaptable and incredibly exciting. Everything has the ability to be parried, including sword swings, swipes from hulking creatures, and possibly lightning strikes, all of which are accompanied by a steely music twang that makes you tingle. Exchanges can happen in the blink of an eye when you parry an unblockable Critical Blow, break an enemy poise, and instantly destroy them. They can also happen on purpose as you look for weaknesses and use your Spirit strategically. This is one of the best action entries in a while when combined with imposing boss fights, variable progression that allows you to fully respec your personality, and cunningly designed levels that encourage exploration. Most obviously, it struggles against its lengthy execution in the final half, leading to some boredom and uninspiring stretches. It feels like a tempo game where the same songs are repeated quite frequently because there aren’t enough original enemies for an experience built on memorizing patterns. A distracting treasure program and obvious technical issues like pop-ins and framerate falls in larger areas are additional nuisances. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is a finely honed happiness even though its single half failed to reflect what came earlier. Learning the nuances of each opponent is incredibly satisfying, and its action is correct and responsive. This is a remarkable title that induces trance-like focus and pleasant moments of triumph, even though I wish its backwards stretch was either pared down or had more enemies. It might not quite live up to the standards of the plays that served as its inspiration, but it’s not far away. & lt/ p & gt,
