Cyborg 2077: Going Hands-on: Phantom Liberty

I had the good fortune to come hands-on with Phantom Liberty during the first half-hour of the game. & nbsp,

But first, let’s set the stage: V, who is still suffering from a Relic chip that is slowly eating away at him, is forced to participate in an elaborate plot involving enigmatic members of the( all-new ) Pacifica Combat Zone who are vying to assassinate the US President. Songbird, a fresh character who seems to have as much exposure to V’s mind as Johnny Silverhand, helps him by phasing in and out of perspective. In Phantom Liberty, CD Projekt Red has promised a complete spy-thriller, and the picture I got confirms that. & nbsp,

The demo is filled with scenes from genuine action movies, starting with Songbird assisting V to reach a roof in the Dogtown neighborhood. Maybe the President’s personal aircraft, Space Force One, crashes dramatically. A pitched battle between mechanical soldiers and would-be murderers is shot down on its way out of area and careens feet above your head. It ends only as you persuade the President that you are there to protect her and are quickly engulfed in an explosion. This game’s stall is broken by the demo; Phantom Liberty may be all-action, eschewing the melancholy moments of Cyberpunk in favor of a suspenseful thriller. & nbsp,

I act as a tanky Solo while carrying sledgehammers for those more private moments as well as shotguns, devastating gentle machine guns that also have the added benefit of setting my goals on flames. I’m soon rewarded for my decision by being forced into a series of firefights( and using the Berserk version that my pre-built figure is equipped with, liberally and nbsp ). It will be interesting to revisit these action sequences with my own Netrunner keep – dispersed cover will make for a beautiful predator stealth experiment. & nbsp,

In between the gunfire, I also get a glimpse of Phantom Liberty‘s more subdued events. I walk through Dogtown Black Market, where it’s obvious from the people at Cyberpunk that some of its greatest accomplishments are world-building. The Market is a marvel of filthy elegant, brimming with intricately lit, chattering NPCs. Even talking to the neighborhood weapons dealer can lead to significant interaction as he displays his mods, explains how his body is cyberkinetically connected to each item marketed, and also shows me a demonstration of his elbow-mounted flamethrowers. & nbsp,

It appears to present a brand-new aspect of the game’s now magnificent globe— a darker, ostensibly riskier setting to test out your preferred brand of augmented damage working. We’re promised new weapons, fresh cyberware, updated police systems, and vehicle-to-vehicle fight, but I don’t get to see the modifications the developers made to the platform itself. & nbsp,

Solomon Reed, a fresh character played by Idris Elba, is noticeably absent from my demonstration. It’s a great display of trust because CD Projekt Red is obviously happy to brag about its development in terms of its own merits rather than just serving as the platform for its newest Hollywood star. This is a pretty new part to 2077 Cyborg, and I’m excited to see more of what it has to present. That decision has been confirmed based on the small amount of games I played. & nbsp,
