    Paramount Taps Guy Ritchie for Ministry of Warfare Ungentlemanly

    Paramount taps Guy Ritchie for Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare While currently at work on his latest Jason Statham-led spy thriller Five Eyes, Guy Ritchie has already found his next project in the form of a film adaptation of Damien Lewis’ World War II history novel Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare for Paramount Pictures, according to Deadline. RELATED: Five Eyes: Behind-the-Scenes Look at Guy Ritchie’s Jason Statham-Led Spy Film The novel, published in 2016 by Quercus, explores the era of 1939 WWII when Britain was being beaten down by Germany in mainland Europe and saw Winston Churchill respond by electing to stop fighting under accepted rules of engagement and build a band of warriors who became the first secret operatives to strike behind enemy lines. Essentially Britain’s first black ops unit, members were recruited knowing they would likely not make it out alive but formed a close bond with the rest of their group and won numerous key victories against the Nazis. Paramount acquired the rights to the novel since 2015, ahead of its publishing and outbidding a number of other studios, and have landed the Aladdin and Sherlock Holmes filmmaker to write and direct the project, with previous writers attached to the project including Arash Amel (A Private War), Paul Tamasy (The Outpost) and Eric Johnson (The Finest Hours).     The Gentlemen Series in the Works From Miramax & Guy Ritchie Following The Gentlemen‘s theatrical release earlier this year, Deadline brings word that director Guy Ritchie has teamed up with Miramax TV to develop a new TV series based on Ritchie’s action comedy film that was led by Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey. The English filmmaker has signed on to write and direct The Gentlemen series. The film’s producers Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies will also return to serve as executive producers along with Ritchie. Further details about the project’s plot and characters are still being kept under wraps. “Miramax Television is thrilled to break new creative ground in our partnership with Guy Ritchie on The Gentlemen,” Miramax’s Head of Worldwide Television Marc Helwig said. “One of the most distinctive and prolific filmmakers working today and someone whose creativity I have admired for many years, we couldn’t be more excited to bring the cinematic journey of The Gentlemen forth into the realm of global premium television.” RELATED: Five Eyes: Jason Statham & Guy Ritchie Reunite for International Spy Action Thriller The Gentlemen (formerly titled Toff Guys) follows American ex-pat Mickey Pearson (McConaughey) who built a highly profitable marijuana empire in London. When word gets out that he’s looking to cash out of the business forever it triggers plots, schemes, bribery, and blackmail in an attempt to steal his domain out from under him  Ritchie’s signature visual cocktail will be served with an abundance of fun. Ritchie wrote the script with Marn Davies and Ivan Atkinson. The film starred Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club), Hugh Grant (Four Wedding and a Funeral), Collin Farrell (Widows), Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians), Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey), Charlie Hunnam (Pacific Rim), Jeremy Strong (Succession) and Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes). The Gentlemen also features Lyne Renee, Chris Evangelou, Eugenia Kuzmina, and Jason Wong.
